We maintain all Township roads (approximately 400 km.); please note that we do not maintain Regional roads (such as Simcoe Street [Regional Road 2]) or Provincial highways (such as Highway 7A).

We have two depots, one located in Port Perry and another located in Blackstock. Our Port Perry depot provides services for all Township roads on the west side of the Township, and our Blackstock depot provides services for all Township roads on the east side of the Township and Scugog Island.

Road maintenance includes plowing, sanding, grading, ditching, patching pot holes, re-surfacing, installing and maintaining sidewalks, culvert installations, roadside maintenance (i.e. pick up of dispersed garbage such as fast-food containers on the side of the road), roadside grass cutting, brushing (cleaning up of the brush on the roadside), tree trimming (for example if your tree branch is dangerously hanging over the road, we must maintain the safety of our citizens), street lighting, and the pick up and disposal of "road kill". 

Department office hours are from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Our dedicated personnel include the Director of Public Works, 13 Equipment Operators, 2 Roads Managers, and ½ Support Staff (we share our Support Staff Person with the Building Department). Our staff is also complemented by students in the summer months.

The Public Works Department's operating budget (approximately $2.7 million) generally consumes 56% of the Township's total net operating budget. The Capital budget fluctuates from year to year, depending on the projects planned.
